Jiggle Jiggle (2021) is a multisensory sculptural installation centered around a large vibrating gelatin “birthday cake” cast from ocean water, seaweed, fish oil, and crustaceans. Conceived as a material proxy for the bodies and environments of sea lions, the gelatin mass functioned as both object and atmosphere, its bouncing form and pungent marine scent transformed the small barn stall where it was installed. A looped video, tightly cropped to the point of abstraction, shows sea lions piled together in heaving contact; their vocalizations fill the space, merging with the sensory presence of the gelatin structure. Additional elements including a seaweed lasso and a decorated serving table with fragments of gelatin and seaweed extend the work into a tactile, olfactory, and spatial field. Rather than depicting marine life, Jiggle Jiggle creates an embodied, materially driven encounter with the textures, proximities, and compressions that define sea lion sociality, translating these dynamics into a sculptural environment that unsettles the boundary between representation and sensation.
